Electah Chase
Electah is a Traditional Midwife and Herbalist providing home birth midwifery care to families in the Kansas City, Missouri metropolitan area.
Birth work has been part of Electah’s life for as long as she can remember. Long before she knew there was a name for it, she was supporting family and friends as a birth and postpartum doula.
Her personal birth journey is what ultimately solidified her path into maternal health. In March 2017, Electah gave birth to her second “sonshine.” While she had planned a peaceful home birth in Los Angeles with a midwife, life had other plans and she gave birth in a hospital in Kansas City instead. The experience was transformative: the mistreatment, harassment, silencing, and threats she faced didn’t just bring a new mother and baby into the world, it also birthed a midwife.
After returning to Los Angeles two months later, she was embraced by the midwives at Kindred Space LA. From there, her official journey into maternal health began. She completed Doula and Placenta Encapsulation training at Kindred Space LA, Midwifery training at Crimson Fig, an Herbal Apprenticeship at The Laya Center, and a Midwifery Apprenticeship abroad.
In response to the lack of doula presence in hospital births, Electah went on to create her own Doula Training Program. She is also the founder of Mama Is Universal, a community space for mothers from all walks of life to connect in the shared journey of being and becoming Mamas.
